The 2006 Youth and Training band concert The Hathern Youth and Training Bands presented a sizzling evening of musical entertainment at their 9th annual concert on Saturday 01 July 2006. The Hathern Youth Band was formed in the 1980s and now has over 30 players and is registered as a National 4th Section Band, which has enabled adult learners to take part in contests and concerts with the youth players. Musical Director, Mike Cooper, and the Band presented a varied and entertaining programme and opened the proceedings with the march Kenilworth, which set everyone's feet tapping. We were also taken to the movies with music from the films Schindler's List and Roger Thornes arrangement of Do-Re-Mi from The Sound of Music. There was also a dash of Latin tempo with the lively number Amparito Roca. The Hathern Training Band also has in excess of 30 players and under the baton of their Musical Director David Newman, presented three numbers, British Grenadiers, Cool Calypso and the well known tune the Floral Dance. The warmth of the audience's response to both Bands' performances certainly matched the weather as the concert took place on one of the hottest days of the year. It is hoped that the weather will be as good for the Youth Band's next concert at Sutton Bonington Show on Sunday 03 September 2006. In addition to the Youth Band itself, the Youth Section also includes starter classes, learner groups and the Training Band. New members, either complete beginners or established players are always welcome and regular rehearsals take place in the Hathern Bandroom on Monday evenings - further information can be obtained from the secretary .
