School Band members from the Abraham Darby Specialist School for the Performing Arts, Madeley, Telford are celebrating as they have received the news that three of the School’s senior bands had received the coveted invitations to participate at the National Festival of Music for Youth which will be held in Birmingham this coming July. The National Festival for Music for Youth is again being held in Birmingham this year as a result of the continuing extensive refurbishment work that is being undertaken at the Royal Festival Hall, London.

It will be the ninth consecutive year that there has been representation from the school at this prestigious event. This year the Showband, Jazz Band and Senior Brass Band, will be attending at the National Festival that will be staged at the Birmingham Symphony Hall and the Birmingham Conservatoire. The invitation follows the Regional Qualifying Heat that was recently held this March at the Madeley School.

All bands will be looking forward to taking part in the Festival, and will now approach a busy rehearsal period ahead. In previous years the school has been presented with many Outstanding Performance and Highly Commended Awards, with the Showband having achieved an Outstanding Performance Award five times in six years, the last four having being obtained in consecutive years. The Jazz Band has also achieved a number of Outstanding Performance and Highly Commended Awards in previous years in the School National Jazz Band Festival. Awards have also in previous years been awarded to the Senior Brass Band who has also enjoyed success in recent years having been awarded the Highly Commended Award on three occasions.

Simon Platford, the School’s Director of Performing Arts said “that he was extremely, delighted and honoured that the school has received an invitation yet again, and that this represents a remarkable achievement and is a testament to the many hours of hard work and dedication of all the band members both present and past. It continues the sustained success that has been enjoyed by the school bands over many years”.
