Members of an International award winning band are shortly to commence their next major fundraising project with a concert to be held at the Telford International Centre. The Showband from the Abraham Darby Specialist School for the Performing Arts, Madeley Telford have been invited to participate in the New York International Wind Band Festival which will be held in the world famous Carnegie Hall in March 2007 and the School and the Supporters of Music at Abraham Darby School have now commenced the long fundraising project, which will enable the Showband to participate at this world famous event.

The first fundraising event will be an Afternoon Concert to be held at the Telford International Centre, Telford on Sunday 25th September commencing at 2.30 p.m. with tickets priced at £3.00. The invitation to participate in this prestigious event follows from the Gold Award that the Showband achieved at the London International Wind Band Festival in July this year, and also followed from the six consecutive Gold Awards at the National Finals of the National Concert Band Festival held in Manchester at the Royal Northern College of Music earlier in March.

Simon Platford the School’s Director of Performing Arts said “that the opportunity that has been offered to the School’s Showband to attend this world famous event in the Carnegie Hall, New York will represent a once in a lifetime opportunity for the band members which will become a treasured moment that they will be able to reflect and appreciate for the rest of their lives – I am also very grateful to the owners of the Telford International Centre who are supporting our latest venture by allowing the Showband free use of their venue for this particular concert to enable us to start our fundraising. I hope that the people of Telford will help us by supporting this concert and assist in making a good start to the fundraising campaign”.

Tickets are available from the School’s Music Department on 01952 432081 ext. 211 or from the Supporters of Music at Abraham Darby School on 07798 843458
