Members from the award winning Abraham Darby Specialist School for the Performing Arts, Madeley, Telford are busy preparing for another busy weekend of long distance travelling as they enter two major Festivals this coming weekend.

Following on from the usual Spring End of Term Concert held at the School on Wednesday, they will then arrive at the School early on Friday to travel to Glasgow to participate at the National Festival of the National Concert Band Festival which will be held at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama on Saturday 8th April. This particular Festival has seen consistent awards for both the Showband and the Jazz Band in previous years, with the Showband having achieved six consecutive National Gold Awards and the Jazz Band awarded five National Gold awards in the previous six years.

Then on Sunday another early departure from Telford will be faced by the School’s Senior Brass Band as they travel north to Manchester to participate in the School’s Section of the National Youth Brass Band Championships of Great Britain which will be held at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester. In previous years at these particular Championships the School has returned after having been beaten narrowly into second place by Smithills School in Bolton – last year the Brass Band returned with a Gold certificate and the band is hopeful of repeating this achievement again at this years contest.

Simon Platford, the School’s Director of Performing Arts said “that the band members are showing complete dedication again with their participation at these two prestigious national events with the long travelling they will experience this weekend – and when they return knowing that they have done their very best they will be able to relax and enjoy the rest of their well earned Easter Break.”
