The School’s Showband has been the recipient of National Gold Awards at the last six successive National Concert Band Festivals together with the awarding of Outstanding Performance Awards at the last four consecutive National Music for Youth Festivals. The School’s Brass Band was also awarded with its second Highly Commended award at last July’s National Festival for Music for Youth, held in Birmingham’s prestigious Symphony Hall. The School’s Director of Performing Arts, Simon Platford said that “he was looking forward to the return of Phillip McCann and Sellers International Band to the School for the fourth consecutive year and that he was extremely grateful and honoured that this Championship Band can find the time in their very busy calendar to perform in a joint concert with our school bands and are prepared to travel the long distance from Huddersfield to be joining with us at the School. It also represents a wonderful opportunity for all the band members to jointly work and perform with a band which has developed an international and long standing reputation. I also know that Sellers have in previous years enjoyed working with our School band members and they have also expressed glowing praise for the high musicianship and dedication shown by the pupils”. The Joint Concert will be held in the school’s well equipped Selwyn Theatre on Saturday 4th February commencing at 7.30 p.m., with tickets priced at £8 (tiered seats) and £6 available from the School on 01952 432081 ext 211, from the Supporters of Music at Abraham Darby School on 01952 400686 or 07798 843458 or on the door, subject to availability.
