Telford will witness its very own Sunday Night is Music Night when on Sunday 15th October three major musical forces will combine together in a joint concert in Telford Town Centre with the concert commencing at 7.30 pm. The concert will feature the Jackfield-Reisen Brass Band, Shropshire’s only Championship Brass Band, the multi-award winning Abraham Darby Showband (sponsored by Newport Chiropractic) and the Jubilee Fellowship Gospel Choir, from Wolverhampton. In May this year the Jackfield-Reisen Brass band took part in a joint concert with the Showband and two choirs at Telford's College of Arts and Technology (TCAT) in their recently opened multi-million pound sports arena. The concert which was in aid of the Telford Hospice saw the combination for the first time of the two bands of Jackfield-Reisen Brass Band and the Abraham Darby Showband in a joint concert on the same stage. This was a memorable event and as a result Jackfield Brass Band offered their services free of charge to help the Showband in its fundraising to enable participation at New York, thus the idea behind this concert was established. The concert is being presented by the members of the Rotary Club of Ironbridge, with all the proceeds being donated to the Abraham Darby Showband’s forthcoming trip to New York when they will participate in the New York International Wind Band Festival next March in the world famous Carnegie Hall. Martin Brookes, a former President of the Rotary Club of Ironbridge, current President of the Supporters of Music at Abraham Darby School and Patron of the Jackfield-Reisen Brass Band together with his fellow Rotarians have worked very hard in order that this concert would be staged. He said “that following the very successful concert held back in May this year everybody who took part and many of the audience were struck with the very high level of musicianship of all the groups in general and the Showband in particular and there arose a genuine desire to help the Showband in their current fundraising to visit New York next year. All the participants have agreed to join together at no charge in order to assist these very talented young ladies and gentlemen – the event promises a tremendous musical event”.
