Hello Brass Banders - Another great show for you this week. Two hours of music from a number of bands from around the world and some soloists straight out of the top draw as well. I now have a new website www.chrishelme-brighouse.org.uk have a lot through it all, I am sure you will appreciate the Sunday Bandstand section. It has an archive of shows with full playlists dating back to the summer of 2014. There are reviews of some of the latest CDs and some brass band memories - click where it says MORE at the bottom of each entry and you will have the full story and the odd You Tube link. ...................... Lawrence Wright (15.02. 1888 – 19.05.1964) was a British popular music composer and publisher. He was born in Leicester and opened a music shop in the city in 1906. A short time later his first song, "Down By The Stream", was published, and by 1912 he had established the Lawrence Wright Music Co in Denmark Street, London. He went on to write (or co-write) over 600 songs under his own name and as Horatio Nicholls, including the World War I propaganda song "Are We Downhearted? No!", and would receive an Ivor Novello Award in 1962 for Outstanding Contribution to British Popular Music. He also wrote songs under the pseudonyms of Gene Williams and Betsy O'Hogan, He was one of the very rare composers of popular music in this period to make a substantial amount of money - it had not been unusual to see composers who had written dozens of hits die in poverty Our opening march was written by Horatio Nicholls Playlist 17 September 2017 Rhythm and Blues – Philip Sparke Opening for weekly show Foden's Band MD: Michael Fowles - 2010 March of the Herald - Horatio Nicholls Brass Band Kirchenmusik Fluhli (Switzerland) MD: Robert Balmer - 1987 The Jolly Robbers Overture - Franz von Suppé Arr: Howard Lorriman Black Dyke Band MD: Professor Nicholas Childs - 2001 My Treasure - Wilfred Heaton Eikanger Bjorsvik Musikklag (Norway) MD: Howard Snell - 2000 A Night in Tunisia - Dizzy Gillespie Arr: Nestico Trumpet Soloist Henry Collins with the Redbridge Band MD: John Clark - 1994 Rondo Alla Turca from the Piano Sonata in A - Mozart Arr: Martin Ellerby Grimethorpe Colliery RJB Band MD: Garry Cutt - 1999 Ruslan and Lyudmila - Glinka Arr: Walter B.
