Class, That sounds like a real amateur attempt! I'd be tempted to report them to yahoo. They would have a chance of identifying them.

How thick do they think we are, you only have to read the letter/email to know that they have no idea how to phrase a letter supposedly from the Bank of England.MUPPETS

My favourite of these was the one which even gave me the co-ordinates of the ship containing the oil which I had apparently become the owner of (If I gave them my bank account details of course).

I just recieved an email from the Bank of Hong Kong! Wooo.

    From : john chan <chan06john@hotmail.com> Reply-To : john_chan709@yahoo.com.hk Sent : 20 February 2007 19:47:58 Subject : URGENT ASSISTANCE [IMG]

    URGENT ASSISTANCE
    HANG SENG BANK LTD,
    HONG KONG.
    tel/fax: +852-301-61250
    Tel:+85236786734

    Email: john_chan709@yahoo.com.hk

Let me start by introducing myself. I am Mr. John C C Chan Chief Executive Officer of the Hang Seng Bank Ltd.Before the U.S and Iraqi war, our client a business man made a numbered fixed deposit of (167,211,702.56 HKD) for 18 calendar months, this is valued to Twenty One million Five Hundred Thousand United State Dollars only in my branch. Upon maturity several notice was sent to him, even during the war, three years ago (2003). Again after the war another notification was sent and still no response came from him. We later found out that Hamadi Hashem and his family had been killed during the war in bomb blast that hit their home at Mukaradeeb where his personal oil well was.

After further investigation it was also discovered that Hamadi Hashem did not declare any next of kin in his official papers including the paper work of his bank deposit. And he also confided
in me the last time he was at my office that no one except me knew of his deposit in my bank. So,Twenty One million Five Hundred Thousand United State Dollars is still lying in my bank and no one will ever come forward to claim it. What bothers me most is that according to the laws of my country at the expiration of four years six months the funds will revert to the ownership of the Hong Kong Government if nobody applies to claim the funds.

Against this backdrop, my suggestion to you is that I will like you as a foreigner to stand as the next of kin to Hamadi Hashem so that you will be able to receive his funds for our mutual benefit. Please endeavor to observe utmost discretion in all matters concerning this issue,Should you be interested please send me your full names and current residential address and I will prefer you to reach me on the email address below.E-mail: john_chan709@yahoo.com.hk or my Telephone number:+85236786734.

And finally after that I shall provide you with more details of this operation.Note that this business would follow all the international laws of banking and an attorney would handle all the legal documentations to ensure that the funds are claimed legally so that we would enjoy our funds in peace when it is finally transferred from my country.Your earliest response to this letter will be appreciated.

    Kind Regards

    Mr. John Chan

Isn't it sad that banks with huge amounts of assets have to force their poor employees to get free email accounts with Yahoo? ;)

The really sad thing is that the spammers that send out this trash only have to have one out of millions pay off in order to make a profit.

And the vast majority of this stuff is now originating in China - where the government can selectively block Google and watch individual searches to catch "bad ideas", but not stop spammers operating through their servers.

Think I got the best email scam for some time today - received an email this morning purporting to come from Tony Blair - yes, can you beleive it our very own Prime Minister. It was very well presented and it was only when I got to the end that I spotted the obvious mistake

"You can reply to this email by posting a question to Roads Minister Dr. Stephen Ladyman in a webchat on the No 10 website this Thursday."

Come on that's got to have come from the Far East - I'd have thought they'd have come up with a better name than that - dummies - clicking that link will probably lead to a very non-fff.

No, I got that as well. I believe it to be genuine because I read on the BBC News website yesterday that Tony Blair was going to respond to everybody who had signed the anti road-charging petition. And Stephen Ladyman is the Road safety Minister.......

It tickled me that an email from the Prime Minister went into my junk folder though!

No that just goes to show how clever these scammers are getting - hear something on the news one day and they're sending the scams out the next day - very clever but they won't fool me - I replied telling him where to stick this and reported it to Yahoo as a Spam email - that should close them down.

This will be my last post from the UK.
Apparently my Nigerian great uncle has passed away.
R.I.P. Obyuwe, sorry I couldn't make the funeral.

Subsequently, I have had 14% of his mining fortune, totalling £13,700,000 credited to my account.

    I'm off to sunnier climates.
    Tataaa.

I htink there must be a madman on the loose killing off all my African relatives. At least once a week one of them dies and leaves me a fortune.
Maybe they'll come for me next and one of you will inherit my (as yet unclaimed) millions.
