At the next concert given by the East Yorkshire Motor Services Brass Band, the band will be conducted by stand in 'stunt' conductor Mark Unsworth. Mark steps in as the Band's Musical Director Jim Davies is on holiday. Mark, normally found on the Solo Trombone seat, deputises occasionally as conductor, and this won't be the first time that he has directed the Band, but it will be the first time at an indoor concert. Mark studied conducting whilst at Salford University, but is keen to point out that he is standing in, in a musical capacity for Jim, but not as his body double! The concert also features the Band's Solo Euphonium player Liz Grosvenor in a conducting role. Liz will be conducting the City of Hull Youth Band, who with the Music Centre Percussion Group, are the Band's guests for the evening. Several of the current players with the Band started off playing with this Youth Band, including Kathy Newiss (Flugel), Kirsty Fox (Rep), and Danny Hatton (Back Row) who is the last continuosly serving founding member of the Band. Another link between the bands, is that the Youth Band's Solo Trombonist, Megan Roberts, will be joining the EYMS trombone section for the evening. Megan has already played for the Band on the contest stage, but this will be her concert debut. The concert - on Sunday 25th February - is to raise funds for the St John Ambulance in Hull, who provide the Band with their regular rehearsal facilities. It is only a year ago that both St John Ambulance, and the EYMS Brass Band had to find alternative facilities due to damage and intimidation caused by a group of illegally camped travellers, and whilst both groups have now returned to the building the financial loss is still being felt. This concert is one way that the Band has of both entertaining the local community and raising funds for St John Ambulance. The music starts at 7.30pm at the Albemarle Centre, Anlaby Park Road South, Hull.
