Stonesfield Silver Band celebrated its 50th Anniversary on Saturday 7th October with an enjoyable evening of music and socialising in Stonesfield Village, where it all started in 1956. The event brought together a multitude of ex-players, and guests from the village, who spent the evening happily reminiscing and listening to a performance by the current band. One of the stars of the show was Dorothy Calcutt (pictured), whose involvement goes back almost to the beginning, and who taught a huge number of children to play, including many of today's players. The lady is a legend in Oxfordshire banding. One of the ex-players brought along a large collection of photographs, including one of the band that played on Blue Peter in 1982! There was also a presentation for Terry Brotherhood, who resigned as MD earlier this year, having taken the band from fourth to first section in ten years. Applications are currently invited for a successor. Plans are now being made for the centenary celebration!
