Stocksbridge band is delighted to announce that it has engaged the services of David Nesbitt as Musical Director from immediate effect. David brings a wealth of musical experience to the band following a glittering career with top class Brass Bands. He studied tuba with Stuart Roebuck in Manchester whilst he was member of the Ever Ready Band in the North East of England and joined the Black Dyke Mills Band on BBb Bass at the age of 18 being a member of the band that first completed the "Grand Slam' of all major titles in 1985. He has also had spells with Grimethorpe, YBS and Scottish Co-op, winning major titles with each of them. Since 1994 he has pursued a freelance career and regularly performs with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Northern Sinfonia, Northern Ballet Theatre and Opera North. During this time David has worked with solo artists such as Lesley Garrett, Evelyn Glennie, Julian Lloyd Webber and Pavarotti. As a soloist and ensemble player he has performed throughout the world including tours to America, Malaysia, the Phillipines and Japan. His most recent tour was as a member of Alliance Brass Ensemble performing at the 2006 ITG Festival in New Jersey, USA. David has worked as a conductor with a wide range of ensembles from youth orchestras and wind bands to competing bands in both the lower and top sections, and is looking forward to taking Stocksbridge back into the top flight of banding. Stocksbridge has also had a major reshuffle in it’s organisational structure. The band would specifically like to thank Isobel Radford who took on the chair-persons role on top of her other responsibilities and has worked extremely hard to keep the band going forward during a very difficult period. This role has now been filled by a dedicated chair person who, along with the creation of two Concert Secretaries and a Contest Secretary, will take the band forward. Stocksbridge have also made several new signings and are very excited about the coming year, looking forward to a schedule which is already becoming extremely busy.
Excellent to hear a band has 'turned a corner' after a difficult period. Good to see things are back on track and good luck in the future.
Huzzah! It's great to be involved with such a forward looking, talented and friendly bunch. Exciting times indeed!
