Stape Silver Band have appointed Tabby Clegg to lead its assault on the Fourth Section National Finals in September.

Following the retirement of Bandmaster Mike Breckon in March, the band has been auditioning candidates to take over the reins and is pleased to announce that Tabby Clegg has accepted the offer to direct the band through its exciting course to the National Finals.

Having graduated from the RNCM and played with many top ensembles, Tabby has gained a lifetime’s experience working with brass bands and recently stepped down as principal cornet and band manager of the Yorkshire Co-op Brass Band after 12 years. She is currently a co-director of the music publishers Mode for.... and has recently launched a new PR agency for brass musicians called Brass! PR.

Commenting on the appointment, Tabby said: “I am delighted to be commencing a full-time conducting career with the opportunity to direct this fantastic band to the National Finals. Stape is an ambitious team with superb team and family values and it is a pleasure to make the long journey each week to work with them.
“Having held the principal cornet position and managed Yorkshire Co-op for the last 12 years it is a fresh new challenge taking over the reins of a band and along with running two businesses and undertaking other playing, conducting and adjudication work both at home and overseas I now have plenty of musical variety.”

Stape Silver are currently recruiting additional players for the summer season and onto the national finals if you would be interested in joining our friendly team please visit our website or drop us an email at
