    Who is your sporting legend?

Ali?? Best?? Charlton?? Thompson?? Eddie the eagle??

could put a poll up but the chances of including all the guesses we'll get would be minute to say the who is it, who do you think is the greatest sporting character?

For me it has to be Ali.

Erm I've no idea who anyone is talking about so I'm gonna say Jonny Wilkinson. He not only saved us from the aussies, he is very modest and incredibly good looking ;) . And is also an unbelievably good football player.

    Jonny Wilkinson... Football??

Plus... It was Martin Johnson who really won that trophy for us...

For benefit of euphfanhan, jonny wilkinson is rugby!

And for the benefit of all those who think I am completely retarded (theyre not far wrong!) I am perfectly aware that he is a rugby player, I was merely stating that whilst he is recognised for his rugby skills, he should also be admired for his football skills which are amazing. I have 2 videos, the biography, the autobiography, and 8 posters in my room! Including a picture of him and Martin Johnson, who I'm aware also contributed to the world cup win. But it was Jonny who actually won the game with 20 seconds to go.
    Phew, I can breathe now.

Yep sorry, honest mistake there, came accross as that! My deepest apologies, euphfanhan truly knows her sport! Sorry for any offence!

Martin Johnson was 40% of the team... Best English rugby player ever... and even if wilkinson hadnt kicked that... We'd have won in extra time... It was always our trophy... even if it was close...

For me it has to be Martin Johnson. Awesome rugby player (who would frighten the kiwis into submission at the moment), inspirational leader too.

Having watched his pre-match talks on the last Lions tours on the dvd (watched it yet Pav?)
he made you want to go out there and do it on the pitch for him yourself.

The man justifies the title legend.

I think for me England cricketer Michael Atherton, contributed so much to cricket, strugling with extremely serious back problems, deserves legendary status as much as anyone!

Colin Bell was a man city "Star" and I use that in the loosest term from the 1970's..he is no pele , rivalino or any world football great ( Bobby Moore , Kenny Daglish , Johan Cruyff , Marco Van Basten) I think he might have been a member of the worse England team ever to take to the field .

Man City fans wanted part of the New City of Manchester Stadium to be named after Colin Bell - as you can imagane how Manchester City Council would have been happy to have name the End after Mr Bell????
