The Midlands Area Championship Section contest will be the final one for the Shirley Band's Solo Horn player, Scott Burns, before he leaves for a new posting in the United States. As such, a vacancy has arisen for the position from the date of the contest onwards.

Under the direction of David Bishop-Rowe, the band has grown in strength and numbers over the past few years and are always seeking to improve the quality of our performance in whatever sphere that may be as we approach our centenary in 2019.

Further information about the band including contact details, rehearsal times and venues, concert and contest performances are all to be found on the band's website, or you could PM me if interested.

The Solo Horn position at The Shirley Band is still available, following the last incumbent having now moved to Portland, Oregon! The band is now busy preparing to take part in the All England International Masters and for a number of concert performances, including the closing spot in Pershore Abbey for Pershore Midsummer Brass.

Details about the rehearsal times and locations, as well as a whole host of other information about the band can be found on the website, or on the public Facebook page. There you will also find contact details, or alternatively you could PM me.

If you're interested but unsure, the best way to decide would be to come and have a blow!

Everyone in the band is friendly and welcoming, with a range of humour from dry (no names, rob) to downright juvenile (admitting to nothing). Age range of the band extends from 20s to 70s. We have a tea break and go for a drink or curry fairly regularly.

Also, we sometimes play some music and in that respect are lucky to have many strong players and an MD who's great at getting the best out of us.
