Shortage of Valve Oil?

Someone I know went to their local music store for some valve oil and was told there was a national shortage. Something to do with it not being able to go by plane for security reasons, as it came from the States, and it had to be shipped instead.

Has anyone else come across this or is it shopowner's BS !

Well, the bit about going by plane is something I have encountered. American companies won't ship oils, polish etc to Europe by air.

Can't say I know anything about a UK shortage.

That could only be the reason for the shortage if it were a recent change.

I just got two bottles of Al Cass delivered about a week ago.

i havent seen a shortage at stands ive been to, but it is true about not flying them in.

recycle from your slides into an empty valve oil bottle, job done.
or bypass the whole bottle part and just spit onto valves:sup

Simple - use Wick oil (with PTFE) - better than any of the imported stuff and easily available

I got a bottle of that as a freebie sample a while back and was impressed... the only thing I didn't like about it was that it went EVERYWHERE!! :)

When 'lending' someone your valve oil, always take the top off. That way there is more chance of getting it back.

Every band has their valve oil moochers though.

Anyway, cheers for the replies. I take it that there isn't a world shortage (or even a UK shortage) of valve oil. Due to the stuff needing to be shipped rather than flown. From the USA. (It was, as suspected, BS)

I bought some Holton Valve oil. Found out that it stinks. Lending that out, You don't get asked again.
I keep a bottle in my music bag along with the stuff I do use. "Ultra Clear" synthetic valve oil and no horrible smell. Also from USA but I had no trouble getting a couple of bottles. The Holton came from UK off ebay ( Airmail )

  18. I quite agree!! stinks in smell and performance..

Anyway, valve oil seemed readily avaliable enough when I bought some last week! no shortage to my knowledge! :tup
