The Sheldon Theatre Brass Band, from Red Wing, Minnesota, will once again be featured on a podcast. The STBB, Minnesota's oldest modern British-style brass band (in contrast with, for example, the Chatfield Brass Band which is actually a wind band) is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2009.

The podcast, slated for release Sunday, February 8, includes Lucas Burns' interview with STBB music director James Kurschner. Music on the program includes Robert Collinson's "Red Wing, MN" march, my swing-style arrangement of the American folk song "John Henry", and Goff Richards' arrangement of Kurt Weill’s classic "Mack the Knife", all recorded live at the Sheldon Theatre on August 4th, 2007. The program will also include the STBB's earlier performance of "Norwegian Blue", written by Jens Synnes and arranged by Philip Wilby, from the band's "Live" CD, recorded in 2002 and 2003.

    The band's web site is

    Glen Newton
