I'm currently building a brass band sheet music search engine, as I've found it so difficult in the past to find the pieces I've wanted to buy.

Even though it's only in beta right now, I thought I'd publish the link here and kindly ask for any feedback.

    I'm particularly interested in:
    - whether you think this would be useful for you
    - what other features you'd like to see
    - any other publishers that need to be included

The search engine can be found at

I'd be grateful for any comments, thanks.

Prima Vista might be a good bet as they do all (if not most) of Lovatt-Cooper's pieces

Nice, the first suggestion I could make is that you need to write some sound'like code.
For instance tancredi will return a result but tancrede will not... Most search engines have this as a basic part of their functionality.
Also you could do with some form of grouping, for instance, the first two pages of wright and round returns just the part of 20 famous marches
    Hope this helps

Thanks for all the comments so far - brilliant!

Hells Bones - will look at adding PV soon.

PMP - Will get in contact

QAD - Thanks - will be adding soundex-type functionality soon, and of course we need to focus on the search results - trying to keep them simple, but having some sort of intelligence to group "stuff" together.

Great stuff! We really like the website, it looks and feels fantastic.

Would you be able to add our catalogue when you get a chance? There are full details online at or if you contact us on or 012997 489119 we'll send you any info you need.

Best of luck with the site - we're looking forward to seeing it fully up and running.

We can help you out with Prima Vista Musikk as we're the distributor.
Likewise with Kantaramusik (Kenneth Downie) and Band Press VOF (Luc Vertommen mostly).

This is a great idea, and a heroic project. Are you limiting it to the traditional instrumentation?

WoB - the three publishers are now in.

AN - PDF Brass is now in (all, I can recommend Royal Osborne as a great little march!)

ISB - Currently it's going to be a strict Brass Band only search (as I think there's enough work here just for that anyway!)

    Thanks, guys.

Wow - quick work (and thanks for the recommendation).

Do you need publishers to advise you of new publications ?

    Hi Andrew,

No need. I'll be looking to automatically update the catalogue once a week, so should always be relatively fresh.

Hey, I was only thinking the other week about building a brass band music search myself!
But been too busy with other websites.

I was just thinking it might be wise to give some idea where the links are taking you. At the momment you have no idea which publishers site (or music sellers) you are being re-directed to until you get there (unless you look at the url in the status bar).

    Thanks Alex, good point.

I've now added in details of the publisher that sells the piece.

We're now currently up to 15,000 pieces indexed, but would love more.
Can anyone recommend any other publishers for us to include?
