Following the recent departure of Iain Culross to the YBS band, Sellers International are delighted to announce the signing of former Black Dyke cornet player Andy Holmes as the new principal cornet player of the band. Andy, 28, hails from Hartlepool and works as a peripatetic brass instrumental teacher covering the North East.
This will be Andy’s second spell with the band as he held the repiano seat whilst at Huddersfield University where he was a former pupil of Phillip McCann. He has also held the principal cornet seat at the BHK (UK) band and more recently enjoyed a three year spell as repiano for the Black Dyke band. Andy has been covering the repiano seat with the band over the Christmas period and also helped Sellers take third place at the recent Brass in Concert championships.
“We are extremely pleased to get a player of Andy’s calibre to lead the band. He has quietly impressed Phillip McCann and the band over the last few weeks with his tone, quality and standards and once the news started to filter through the band of Iain’s departure we felt that Andy was the best person to take up the mantle of Principal Cornet. We are sure that he will enjoy the challenges that come with such an important seat and he is a welcome signing for the band.”
Andy will be making his debut with the band at the Hawth in Crawley, Sussex this weekend (14th of January).
The bands program will include: Semiramide, Gaelforce, Land of the long white cloud, Flourishes and Dances, the Irish Blessing and Glorifico Aeternum.
