To all who knew and worked with my father, Roy Slade (fomerly Sgt Roy Slade, Royal Artillery Band, Woolwich and leader of the Royal Artillery Orchestra), conductor Bexley Borough Band and long-time supporter and admirer of the Salvationist band movement . . .

A brief message to let you know that Roy died on Friday evening (11th November 2005) aged 81.

He had been ill for a short time following diagnosis of oesophogal cancer in September and the effects of the cancer, combined with the known possible side-effects of the chemo therapy were more than he could cope with.

He died peacefully and pain-free in his sleep - and he even let me accompany him one last time.

For the past few years, Roy lived in Hucknall, Nottinghamshire and his last few days were spent in the City Hospital just a few miles away.

Details of further arrangements will follow but, in the meatime, perhaps readers of this thread would be kind enough to pass on the news to anyone who knew Roy and with whom you are still in contact.

    Best wishes to you all
