Does anybody know the origin behind the title?
Thanks in advance
I heard the story was that it was written for a bet that it would be a piece that bands couldnt play. As in "I bet I can write a march that a brass band cant play".
Not sure who the bet was with though but think it was some other notable march writer.
It was written for the LINDLEY BRASS BAND Huddersfield specially by J Ord Hume,I believe.
According to 4BR http://www.4barsrest.com/shopping/cd_detail.asp?id=93 there is information on a CD by Black Dyke - but what that information is, I don't know.
I think that is the CD my MD has any he said there wasn't much information.
As Stuart said, it was written for the Lindley band in Huddersfield, so I suggest you try and contact them. They will without doubt have the answer for you. I'm sure I've been told but can't remember.
A little while back I was selling duplicate parts from our Library on ebay. One of the buyers was a relative of Mr Ord Hume and he contacted me. He was building a Catalogue of works by the Ord Humes' and I've emailed him to bring this thread to his attention. He may or may not be able to help?!
