Are the markings meant to be ritenuto or ritardando? I've been interpreting them as the former, but after having a look at the Tredgear workshop on 4barsrest they seem to be playing the latter. Seeing as the adjudicators seem to want clarity to come through (comments from both judges on 4barsrest, so you'd assume ABBA), I don't want to (potentially) lose points because of unclear markings on the score.

Rest assured , if your band is in the 4 or 5 report sheets that stay on the table and not one of those on the floor you will have " picked " the correct " rit ".

I would honestly be surprised if a placing in a 4th section contest came down to whether a rit. was a bit over- or under-done. Put all the notes in the right place while not doing anything grotesque to the interpretation, and you'll win the thing.
