MY CD player's banjaxed with the drawer stuck in so the only thing I can listen to at the moment is a 'Famous Marches' CD! (Oo-er.) Most of it's Rimmer, and didn't he write some corkers? But what's your favourite Rimmer march?

Everyone who knows me knows mine... and it's embarrasing!

When did Rimmer write a march called 'Embarrassing'? :)

"Ravenswood", just because of the Solo Horn Part

Has to be Ravenswood. Has a ripper of a sop part and the solo cornet parts arent bad either!

. . as soon as I saw this thread I was ready to click 'Honest Toil' (not only my favourite Rimmer march, but simply my favourite march - for ther first few bars alone)! . . what a disapoint for young man! I'll have to go for Slaidburn as a protest vote.

    Not forgetting Orion either?

I could only put ten marches on the poll!

No - I didn't mean to upset your poll! But he did write some fantastic marches and amongst the little known ones are some real gems. Come back in and sit down and I'll vote for Black Knight. (For me, Ravenswood is let down by the overly sequential bass solo).

There's also a fair number written by Rimmer under different names. I've just unearthed St Hilda by one W Raymond, which is certainly worth hearing.

Hey, everyone. Looks like we've found Dave Payn's replacement!!!

    OK, Thirteen Ball....

    Dave's current duties involve:

    64 posts a day
    Anagram Quizzes
    Sports Quizzes
    Bad Jokes
    On this day
    Copyright questions
Being nearly a match for Peter Bale in terms of knowledge

I hope you've got 35 hours a day to devote to tMP... :-D

My favourite Rimmer March is "The Avenger" - not on the poll, nor anyone else's list so far.

We did it two years running at Whit Friday - got some half-decent results with it; often wondered if that was because the adjudicators were relieved to hear something different ...

Another attractive Rimmer march not on the poll is "Salome".

    Dave's current duties involve:

64 posts a day - Well, I'm currently off work so could struggle when I go back
    Anagram Quizzes - Erm...
Sports Quizzes - That I can Do!
Bad Jokes - I don't know any other sort.
On this day - Erm... Can do but probably a bit more of a 'random' element involved.
Copyright questions - Would struggle with that.
Being nearly a match for Peter Bale in terms of knowledge - You have to be joking!!!!

I'm confined to quarters this week so I've had rather more time to spend on here than usual. Not sure I could keep the pace up indefinitely! ;)

PS Despite the fact there wasn't enough room for all the marches Rimmer penned on the poll, it looks like I could have cut it down to Five or six with the same results.Nice to see Punchinello doing well....

We do the same, pick something different. You'll only do well with "Ravenswood" if you're Fodens, B+R etc. Entertains the audience, too, and gets a better reception.
My vote would be for "Honest Toil", too. Unfortunately it rarely gets played (at Whit Friday, anyway) by a band that can do it justice.
