Well, yeah. The choir were absolutely brilliant, very musical and entertaining, great in fact! But to be fair, Derwent were only there for the ride, so to speak, and sounded under rehearsed for the task. I mean, Horas Toccatta isn't supposed to be slurred every time it gets to a 'hard' bit is it? I dunno, maybe it is, it never used to be.

The rest of Derwent's programme was a bit 'old hat'. For some unknown reason the band insist that they play swing every time they venture out of the bandroom. It don't work folks!! It's a Brass Band!

As the programme wore on (and on, and on...), the overblowing started and it all got a bit too boring, particularly the rip off version of Gladiator that they did.

The audience couldn't wait for the choir to start again.

A paying member of the public at the concert that Derwent did with Treorchy choir. It just wasn't all that good and as a member of the audience I don't agree with ROBTHEDOG's opinion that it was brilliant :).

So not a former player with an axe to grind and a chip on their shoulder then? Because your post reads exactly like that - and I read enough stuff, and know enough about people here to know.

Anyway - this is not a concert review thread, so back on topic please...

    Thanks BBM!

Have to say that 2 of our pieces - Christmas Bolero and Away in a Manger arr. Peter Graham were bought this year directly as a result of recommendations by tmp members. The audiences (we played them out twice) did enjoy both pieces (although the latter one caused a certain amount of stress for the unfortunate soloist who is not so good at keeping in time... ok in performance though:cool:...)
