Tidying up my now reduced band LP collection I came across a Desford commissioned Concerto for Trumpet and Brass Band by Gareth Wood. Performed by James Watson (who had just left the band to play principal trumpet with the Royal Phil. Orch.) and Desford (directed by Albert Chappell) on the 1977 LP Sounds Of Brass (Decca SB 328 ). I have never heard of this work being performed since then (although you may tell me otherwise). On listening again, this certainly deserves another airing, rather than gathering dust.

Have you got a recording of something that never sees the light of day and needs some recognition?

Is this the point where I stick my head above the parapet again and mention the Alex Owen selections?
