On Sunday 4th December Pilling Junior Band were lucky enough to be involved in a Masterclass led by Quattro Brass (a quartet made up of John Doyle, Ben Rapp, Chris Pannell & Rob Richardson). The Youth Band section of Pilling Junior Band were also joined by members from Poulton-Le-Fylde Junior Band plus some younger players from their senior band. Some of the kids looked on in amazement as the afternoon began with Quattro Brass entertaining the band with a few pieces. Then the band was split into two for section rehearsals, working on a March and, of course, some Christmas music. Throughout the day the lads from Quattro Brass gave the children many tips on aspects of playing such as breathing and practice. The Masterclass concluded with a concert for parents and friends involving the Junior Band and Quattro Brass. It was a fantastic day and Quattro Brass were great with the kids. They all learnt so much and lots of them keep saying how much they enjoyed the Masterclass. We would definitely recommend other Youth Bands to consider getting Quattro Brass over and we will be inviting them back next year. Pilling Junior Band were pleased to welcome along, for the second time in a week, Philip Watson from the BFBB who came to listen to the concert and meet members of Quattro Brass. The day was also attended by Shawn Pagington, Managing Director of First Brass, who brought along a trade stand. The Junior Band has built up a good relationship with First Brass during the last few months, purchasing a number of new instruments from them. Shawn was also kind enough to donate a brand new Virtuosi cornet for presentation at the Band’s annual awards evening.
