The cork has come off my practice mute and disappeared (my 2 year old is smiling) what can I do to improvise a repair?

Use your two year old as a mute?;)

Just kidding ... no children are harmed in the making of this forum. ;)

Are you in immediate need of it today? I managed to by replacement corks for an ordinary mute from Trevada music. I don't know if they sell them for practice mutes (that goes all the way round doesn't it? ).

How about a DIY shop, cork notice board and a bit of double sided sticky tape for a temporary solution?

Wine cork cut to size and superglued on. With the added bonus that you have to drink a bottle of wine first!

Cut some sheet polystyrene to size and wrap it round mute to seal. This should be enough to sort the practice mute!

Or theres the old alternative to make a different one...

Get a harmon mute, take the tube out...

Get a wine bottle cork, and bore a hole through it (smaller = quieter), and put it in the harmon where the tube goes....

    Et Voila (sp?)...
    Works nicely, I find...
