Porthouse set to open 2012 Conductors Convention

    The National Association of Brass Band Conductors looks forward to welcoming delegates to the 2012 Conductors Convention in Woking, Surrey.

    The Convention will take place over the weekend of the 28th and 29th April, 2012 in the conference centre at The Holiday Inn, Woking, Surrey - located in the heart of Woking Town Centre just 5 minutes walk from the main shopping centre, theatre, and cinema.

    The highlight of the weekend will be the Saturday evening concert at St. John’s Church, West Byfleet, Surrey by the 2012 Welsh Open and 2011 All England Masters International Champions, Tredegar Town Band.

    Tredegar Town Band will perform under its Musical Director, Ian Porthouse who will also be opening the convention with a session on ‘Bandroom Basics’.

    • Iain Muirhead - Former Principal Trumpet Scottish Opera, Scottish National Orchestra and BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra
    • Charley Brighton - Wilson Band Instruments Euphonium Soloist and Endorser. Also former Solo Euphonium of Hanwell and Sun-Life Stanshawe Bands
    • Roger Middlebrook – Conductor of Wantage Youth Band
    • Matthew Hall - Tredegar Town Band Resident Composer and winner of the 2011 'Best New Composition' at The Brass In Concert Championships for the second year in succession
    • Iwan Fox, Former Soprano Cornet of Tredegar Town Band and Owner of the brass band world’s leading website, 4barsrest.com
    Designed to renew and inspire there will be seven sessions over the weekend providing an opportunity for both the advanced and aspiring conductor, brass player, teacher and music enthusiast to attend sessions on a wide variety of topics from 'conducting techniques' to the 'composer in residence'.

    Delegates will be encouraged to participate and engage in all activities. The 2012 Conductors Convention will close on the Sunday with a concert by Tredegar 10-Piece followed by a farewell luncheon.
