Heard quite a few bands in the section and was really surprised with the result of my old band (Ellington). I thought they played really well everything was there technically but the interpretation was so different to everyone else that might have had a lot to do with it. But personally i thought they should have been higher than a few bands I heard.

But such is contesting.... if your not in the frame your nowhere

    We were robbed!

Well, what can I say... gutted! We came 15th... (i play solo trombone for ellington colliery band by the way)! We were technically sound and the feeling was sensational... some comments from the adjudicators... "out of tune", "lacked articulation" and "invisible flugel horn" anyone who heard us play knows that aint true. Now normally I dont care who wins or who dosen't but we knew we played well and anyone who heard us knows we were better than the band that won. You could hear footstpes as theran to get half of their percussion in the middle of their performance! Anyway its done... but we know we were robbed... you wont see us in the 3rd section anymore... we'll see all you 2nd section bands next year  !!![/img]

We played like a Band of donkeys and we came 6th :hammer . We are happy(ish) with that. See you all next year in the 2nd section minus the donkeys :bounce

I didn't think we were that bad Ray ;)

There always seems to be some odd adjudication at Pontins, but that's the nature of the beast I suppose. I heard Hoover, and thought there were excellent. Really surprised that they weren't in the prizes.

    Re: We were robbed!

I heard you as your seemingly sole, (drunk) supporter. I was hardly sober at that point but i felt that you gave a credible performance, perhaps not a winning performance, but certainly not 15th. I didn't detect any tuning problems at all and certainly enjoyed Dennis' interpretation.
As Neil Twist said at the time, "If I'd played that performance, I would be happy with it." It was only Pontins after all, and you have got your promotion to look forward to. Best of luck!
