    Pontins Announce 2007 Test Pieces and Adjudicators

    Pontins are delighted to invite all youth bands to enter the Third Youth Brass Band Festival. It is intended to provide both a competitive and enjoyable event for all who attend, with entertainment and leisure facilities on offer for all the family throughout the weekend.

    The prestigious British Open Brass Band titles are on offer with kind permission of Karyn & Martin Mortimer, to whom we are very grateful, along with £3,500 in cash prizes and Trophies.

    All the Test Pieces and prize presentations are as follows:-

    Section A - Sunday 8th July 2007

    Set Test piece: Composer: Publisher:
    Movements 2 & 3 from Sinfonietta , Joseph Horovitz , Studio Music

    FIRST PRIZE: £600. + Commemorative Trophy +The British Open Title
    SECOND PRIZE: £350. + Commemorative Trophy
    THIRD PRIZE: £200. + Commemorative Trophy
    FOURTH PRIZE: £100. + Commemorative Trophy

    In addition £100 & Trophy to the Bands with the best Cornet, Horn, Trombone, Euphonium/Baritone, Basses and Percussion.

    Adjudicators: David Horsfield and David Read

    Specific Rules for Section A.
    The Section is for all Youth Bands, including Music Centre Band, School, Community and County Bands. There is no limit to the numbers in the band including percussion (no tutors). All players must be bona fide members of the band.
    Bands may only enter one section of the festival. Players must not have reached the age of 21 years on the day of the contest. A player may play with more than one band if he/she is a bona fide member of that band

    Section B - Saturday 7th July 2007

    Specific Rules for Section B.
    The Section is for all Youth Bands, School and Training Bands. Each band may use 4 Tutors who must be bona-fide tutors to the band but must not play a soloist part. There is no limit to the numbers in the band including percussion and tutors. All players must be bona-fide members of the band. Bands may only enter one section of the festival. Players must not have reached the age of 19 years on the day of the contest. A player may play with more than one band if they are a bona-fide member of that band.

    The format of the competition for both sections is a 25 minute programme to include a set test piece, an own choice March and any arranged Hymn Tune and pieces of your own choice to make up the 25 minute programme.

    Pontins Brass Band committee always encourage and request comments from anyone for the improvement of their Brass Band Festivals, and after last years successful event received several which the committee have taken into consideration and are preparing some adjustments to the rules these will be included in the schedules and announced shortly.

    Has anyone heared of the Sinfonietta one and is it the one tha has been picked for 1st Section Pontins this year??? Sure theres a Sinfonietta been picked for summert else (i no theres one for the areas)

  3. My youth band is considering entering the second section this year. However we haven't made our minds up yet. I'm on the committee and kinda need to give people an idea of what it's like and that it's worth going. What does everyone think? What's it like? What would the test piece be like, is there one for the second section?
    Hope someone can help!

    Huge apologies if I made any mistakes, did the results from memory, which isn't at its best, must have been the mind numbing coach journey, honest! ;):p

    lol bit of a long way for you lot to travel!! i was fed up after the first hour on the road and became unbearable as time went by.
