Still reeling from its recent success at the National Butlins Mineworkers Brass Band Festival where it scooped the £6000 top prize and its second place at the Yeovil Entertainments Contest, the PolySteel Band is now focussing all its energies into its assault on the forthcoming West of England Regional Championships in March.

Having also just presented a highly successful concert entitled Heroes and Villains in Cheltenham’s Bacon Theatre, the band is now in intense rehearsals for the forthcoming Regional Championships when it hopes to consolidate its recent success with a qualification spot for the Besson National Brass Band Championships in London’s Royal Albert Hall in October.

PolySteel’s Musical Director, Philip Harper, is more than happy with the band’s current playing standard and preparation and he commented: “The band’s current form should be credited to the players. Hats off to them, they really put in the work at home rehearsing the music and therefore we are able to maximise our rehearsal time, which worked really well in the run-up to Butlins. PolySteel is made up of a team of great players who I totally trust with the performance, and though we have some close rivals in the region, the only satisfactory result at the West of England Regional Championships is a win.”

Philip is also happy with the West of England Regional Committee’s move to appoint two judges for the contest. He commented: “Having two judges in the box can only be a good thing, though I would personally prefer them to be separate and there to possibly be more judges so as to eliminate any freak results.”

All the details of the band’s performance at the West of England Championships and views from the Musical Director on the results can be found shortly after the event on the band’s own website at www.polysteelband.co.uk
