A look ahead to next March...

    Championship Section
    Reg Vardy - 5/4 fav
    Fishburn - 3/1
    EYMS - 11/2
    Felling - 8/1
    Barton Town - 9/1
    NASUWT Riverside - 10/1
    Kirkbymoorside - 22/1
    RMT Easington Colliery - 50/1

Normally Reg Vardy would be used to being odds-on, i think thou there are SIX bands with a genuine chance this time around

Never trust a Bookie. East Riding of Yorkshire Band will be playing in the THIRD SECTION. As per National Grading for 2011 letter dated 19.06.2010, Signed by Alan Hope.

Thanks for clearing that one up - I thought it was a bit odd to only promote ONE out of a relatively large section...

I see what you're saying Paddy, but I still think Reg Vardy will take the title. I'll stick the tenner on them to win

I agree with my esteemed colleague on this one, I'm confident that Westoe will put on a dazzling performance £10 each way for me as well!

1st section should be bigger in my opinion. Champ has 10 bands, 1st 7, 2nd 8, 3rd 9, 4th 16. Surely pumping a few extra from 4th up and then a couple from 3rd to 2nd and 2nd to 1st would help pad it out? I know we don't want to devalue any section standard wise but it's better than having tiny sections in my opinion. And I'll take a tenner on Harrogate Paddy.

I agree completely. At the risk of being lynched in Darlington come March, why not decrease the Championship section to a maximum of 8 bands and increase the size of the 1st section, which is greatly depleted, to even the sections out a bit

  16. Or how about disbanding the whole region? Send some up to Scotland, some to the North West and some to Yorkshire...

Maybe I'm old fashioned but I don't want to compete in the (less) North West - my band is located within spitting distance of the North Sea, not the Irish Sea, nor Yorkshire - my band is not based in Yorkshire, nor Scotland - my band is not based in Scotland. I play for a band in the North of England and I don't see why we shouldn't be allowed our own regional contest.

The only reason they can have a Northern contest is cos they've taken a load of Yorkshire bands and put them in.

I would love the North Yorkshire bands to return to the Yorkshire section. For a start it would mean we get to compete at St George's Hall rather than the stupid Dolphin Centre sports hall.

Sorry but I disagree, with the exception of the 4th section, the effects on the other sections would be negligible. I also think the impact of the Yorkshire bands isn't that big in general, the bands from Durham, Tyne and Wear and the handful left in Northumberland still do the business at the area.

If there were more contests in the north east for bands to cut there teeth on, I'm sure the bands would be a lot more competitive once they get to the national contests.

I also agree with Colin, why should Durham, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, and Cumbrian bands play in the Scottish, Yorkshire, North West area...the region has a long and proud heritage of both bands and players and deserves to be recognised.

Surely if some bands were desperate to move area they could force the point to the respective regional committee. Its happened before.

Bands from East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire had no choice when they were forced to take part in the North of England Regional Contest. It was based on Band Room Post Codes not commonsense.

EYMS, Lockwood, Kirkbymoorside and Barton Town
    Harrogate and Shepherd's
    Catterick and South Milford
North Skelton, York RI, Ripon City and Marske
Stape Silver, East Riding, KP Cleethorpes, Knaresborough and Swinton & District

All these bands are either North Yorkshire, Humberside or North Lincolnshire. You take all these out of the North of England section and it would cripple it.
