  1. Am early 60's and just started on cornet in Jan 14. Joined pensioners band when I could play a few scales and arpeggios and am now a veteran of loads of concerts that audiences have enjoyed listening to. Have now moved into vacant baritone slot in the band
After playing stringed instruments in orchestral music for most of my life up to now I must say that I am very impressed with the standard of playing in the brass band world.

Welcome to the world of brass bands. Yes, there are many bands that do play to a high standard and then there's the ones I play in ;). Enjoy youself and don't worry about being older, some banders go on into their 80's and play well. The Baritone's a nice slot but beware the 1st Bari does get some tough and high stuff to play. If you are a bass clef reader too (if not then maybe something for much later) then there's loads of Cello , etc. that you can play at home as well as anything for trumpet/cornet.
