Old Silkstone March and Hymn Tune Contest

    The final line up has been announced for the 5th annual Old Silkstone March and Hymn Tune Contest which takes place in Silkstone Village Barnsley on Saturday 8th July.

    The Contest starts at 3pm with entertainment supplied by Barnsley's Googan Band prior to the actual contest.

    This year has the biggest turn out of bands in the history of the event with 21 bands competing from all sections with prize money in excess of £1000.

    David Horsfield is set to adjudicate at the Red Lion and Geoff Whitham at Silkstone Lodge with Les Tuner judging the deportment.

    This years contest will be rounded off with a concert outside Silkstone Lodge by Silkeborg Band who are joining the contest all the way from Denmark prior to the results being announced.

    Again there will be plenty for everyone to enjoy, plus some great music making and food and BBQ's available at both venues.

    Congratulaitons to Holme, thought you played excellent... pitied you massively for that huuuuuuuge down poor of rain up at the top!!

    Never been to this contest before but had a fantastic time, even with the weather being as it was, there was plenty to do and plenty of space to take cover. Great grub, great beer and great entertainment from those foreign lot afterwards too!!

    Only 1 problem............ my head ache today!
