Afternoon, Has there been an "Official" Scottish Open thread yet? If not, Is anyone going to the Scottish Open? Anyone got any predictions / thoughts on who might feature at the event? If you're going, I'll probably see you in the bar! I'll be one of the ones dressed up like a train conductor! Ohh the joys of sponsorship!! The money helps but the tie is shocking!
So are we! I'm not looking forward to the long coach journey up there, but should have a giggle once we're in the arctic circle! The trip back shouldn't be too bad though (as long as the bar does it's job adequately!)
No! So, this can be it! Woohoo! Never started an official or sticky one before! Cheers Dyl. p.s. give my regards to Dewi Wynn Williams if you see him!
It is particularly chilly up here at the moment and really rainy too, so bring your winter warmers and brolly's. Though after a few pints i dont suppose anyone will mind that much!! Han x
Woohoo, not long now, should be a good day out! Campbeltown Brass are going, we're taking part in the Challenge Cup, and also Campbeltown Brass Juniors will be there in the Development Section of the Youth Contest, so pop into the Strathclyde Suite and support us on your way to the bar! Chances are, if you see a mad, red haired, tuba player shouting at a bunch of kids that are running riot, that'll be me, so drag me away to the bar, so I can calm down!!
Was all organised for coming up for it then...we've got a local contest on the same day. RAGING!!!! Come on the WFWB!!!
Cheers Linda! It would be nice! Are you guys still coming up for it or have plans changed yet again?!
Plans changed as we have Uppermill contest on the Sunday. Will definately be thinking about you all and will be cheering you on!
Our contest starts at 9am...............on a sunday???????????? Are they bonkers??? Plus it means we need to be organised and get a carryout, as the pubs dont open until 12.30pm on a Sunday AND, the results dont come out until the very end.....hmmmmm Jane Dalmellington Band
- looks like it is going to be a long morning for you then! (you can maybe stroll round the shops) BTW, I like the look of your new bandhall .... http://www.geocities.com/dalmellingtonband/Band_Hall.html
A long morning?? I wish - a very long day - fortunately i've got the Monday off work so should make things bit more enjoyable! Our new band hall is great - the kitchen photo was strategically taken so as to avoid the picture of our beer fridge Good impression and all that.... We had our official opening last weekend, i was playing in the band octet, looked up to see Melvyn Bathgate standing listening!! HIm and his wife are patrons of the band (from when he was a guest soloist at our annual Slow Melody contest) they drove up from Yorkshire - top bloke!!!! Not too much pressure either, seeing as i play Horn!!! Aaaaaaaaaaaaghhh
I was speaking to Hugh Johnstone and he was really excited about the place, and at a snip at £200,000 to build! Did he manage to display all his memorablia?
He got a lot of stuff up - the hall was looking great - so much history and memorabilia, its fantastic and Hugh worked (and is still working) tirelessly for the band. Nice to have a warm hall as well...makes a change, plus less of a health and safety risk as you can see from our old band hall pics!!
- things are looking rosy for Dalmellington's future (from what I hear) and wish you all the best for the 'Open'. Shame there aren't more bands competing. It would have been good to see bands from outwith Scotland in your section.
Cheers - it is a bit depressing to only have 5 bands in our section AND starting at 9am....still we shall go and have a good day out and hopefully come back with a prize for our trophy cabinet, fingers crossed!!
Scottish Open Best of luck to all the bands.Iwonder if one of the english bands can keep the title in england. Its a tough task.
