Ah William. Uphill, where I started school in 1956, and Weston Hospice, now next door to the school, where last September, I said goodbye to my Mother.

I just got back from Devon/Cornwall!. Couldn't escape banding though! Went to the Eden Project and what do I see but St Austell (well bits of them) playing to raise funds for the finals!

Also there was a guy on BBC2 Devon who played in a band (couldn't catch which) and was regailing about doing the Oakhampton Carnival in the dark! He also managed to plug the SWBBA Entertainment contest.. Top Man!

Ah, Oakhampton on the edge of Dartmoor, it's main landmark being "Rough Tor", I remember it well - and the Oakhampton Carnival, (are you sure it isn't Okehampton?). Anyway, the Junior Band of the Wessex Brigade, based at Wyvern Barracks (as it was then) in Exeter, (was it Totnes Road?), used to lead that carnival. Yes, I was there, Junior Bandsman Paton, 24104475. We had little lights specially made for our 'lyers' so that we could see our music!
