If you were making a chess set with Brass Band instrument shapes, which instruments would be which pieces? Bb bass as King, obviously... (but which instrument gets to be Queen I wonder?)

Horn would have to be queen! I mean what with it being a girls instrument!

Nah, going on the comparative sizes of the traditional chess pieces and with the BBbBass as the king the queen would have to be the Eb Bass.

    Pawns - cornets.
    Rooks - Horns
    Nights - Euphoniums
    Bishops - Trombones

Knights could only be trombones with the slides being lances.

Queen = Euphonium - biggest drama queen in the whole band!

:sup Ben... don't act like that on a public forum! :( *fears the watchful eye of mods!*

In relation to the thread, Euph's are not the drama Queens of the band... (BEN!)

    Boring answer....

    Rook - tenorhorn
    Knight - trom
    Bishop - baritone
    Queen - Eb bass
    King - Bb bass
    Pawns - cornets.

No room for flugel or percussion (or conductor - should they be maybe the king/queen?)

No use trying to get round me now. Clevedon is within striking distance from me. There is nothing 'girlie' about the Tenor Horn or Tenor Horn Players (except Girl Horn players, obviously.)

    Are you drunk?;)
Definitely horns for Queen. 2nd and 3rd cornets are pawns, basses are knights, Euphoniums are rooks and solo cornets are bishops. And the conductor can be king. Ultimately useless, but without them everything seems to fall apart.
