The future of the St Helens Contest has been secured for 2010. There was some doubt over its future when the existing sponsorship deal with Wilkinsons expired at the end of last year.
Following much effort from Contest Secretary Phil Upton and his team we are pleased to announce The Northern Open Brass Band Championships Sponsored by R Banks & Son Funerals Ltd will take place on Sunday 21st November 2010 at the Theatre Royal, St Helens.

Entrys are welcomed from Bands for the Open, Second, Third and Fourth Section.

    £400 First Prize
    £200 Second Prize
    £100 Third Prize
There will also be number of Soloist and Sectional Prizes up for grabs.

For entry details contact Frank Hodges on (01942) 212418

Just a shame that it is same weekend as Brass in Concert - wonder if that will affect numbers next year if no sponsorship, and on same weekend again?

Sorry about the font change not looked ok when it was typed!.

The date is the same weekend as always due to a number of considerations for both the venue and the organisers. Fortunately the contest has been well supported over the years and continues to draw good numbers despite the date conflict. As always we would hope to be in a position to negotiate a more permanant sponsorship deal and work is still ongoing to make this happen.

Think I'll head to brass in concert this year while I have some money!
Hope the Nothern Open is a good contest though.

Paddy, can I have a fiver each way on my band Parr at 14/1. Don't know if you know, but we won Fleetwood contest 4 weeks ago, beating half this line-up.
Now I'm not saying we'll win, I'd be happy enough with a prize, but 14/1 looks very generous each way value. Cheers mate!

Sorry fellers, you're quite right Paddy and Golborne were 4th but I've misread Deeside, it was Denton who were 5th, so We only beat 3 out of the 8, not 4 as I earlier thought.

I'll take a fiver on Thoresby. They are more than capable in that line up.

Never mind the small change on Paddy Flower, the big money is with Brian Halliwell  for saving this excellent contest. Go to St Helens and pay your admission fee - it's a great days listening and this contest is too good to lose.
