North American Brass Band Championships

    This past weekend was the annual North American Brass Band Association summer meeting.

    Details for the upcoming North American Brass Band Championships were announced. The Championships will be hosted by Indiana University Southeast near Louisville, Kentucky. The solo/ ensemble contest and reading band will be on Friday, March 31st ,2006. The Band competition and Gala Concert will follow on Saturday, April 1st, 2006.

    Each band must complete a programme of approximately 30 minutes (times vary slightly for different sections). The set test pieces for each section are as follows:

    Championship Section: Of Men and Mountains (Edward Gregson)
    Honors Section: Spectrum (Gilbert Vinter)
    Challenge / Open Sections: Aspects of Praise (William Himes)
    Explorer Section: Dimensions (Peter Graham)
    Youth Section: Petite Suite de Ballet (Eric Ball)

    The Galt House Hotel & Suites in Louisville (40202) will be the host hotel.

    I didn't take the time yet to visit the website but surely there's a mistake. Presumably this should read 2006. I also saw a similar announcement on 4BR and maybe we can get this clarified first :)

    Those are all great test pieces, hopefully guaranteeing "bums on seats". Sounds like its going to be a great event... any American bands need a BBb Bass player who would like to play but can't afford to fly there??? :oops: :D
