    Birthday Variations For Michael (Tippett) [B.Tovey, E.Gregson, M.Ball, E.Howarth, P.Wilby]

    - who would have thought a collaboration between composers such as these would have delivered such a balanced piece of music?

Just to clarify: any composition for brass band from the past year can be nominated, regardless of who the composer is.

We may need to confer on this one as, although the whole piece, including the percussion interludes, was premiered this year, each of the four movements has been performed previously.

Yes, a wonderful piece of music, and I only had to look as far as my band folder to check! The date at the bottom clearly states "2000" ;)

In fact one of the movements (Wildfire) was premiered by the NYBBW in 1991.

Bramwell Tovey: A Night to Sing, some of the most original brass writing in many years.
