Newtongrange Silver Band would like to express its appreciation of the support it received from the Scottish brass band movement at the Scottish Open Championship on Saturday 24th November 2007. It was heart-warming to hear so many of our friends and colleagues in Scottish banding congratulate the band on its performance of Macbeth at the championship and wish the band well as it continues its recovery from what has been a difficult 18 month period.
Saturday’s performance was the first time the band have performed a contest test piece on home soil since the Scottish Championships in March 2006 and the band are pleased with the 10th place gained, viewing it as an important step forward as it looks to regain its reputation and standing within the Scottish brass band scene.
The band would like to thank Derek Broadbent for his hard work in preparing Macbeth for the contest and looks forward to the Christmas concert season and the Scottish Championships in 2008 with renewed confidence and vigour. With that in mind the band is aware that there is still work to be done and invites any player who wishes to help the band achieve its aim of retaining its championship section status to contact the band at In particular the band is looking for cornet, percussion and trombone players to further strengthen its line-up. Newtongrange Silver Band is a friendly and sociable band which welcomes applications from any interested player.
