Gloucestershire Music is delighted that to announce that the new Forest of Dean Area Youth Brass Band is now operational. The band, which is open to all brass players 19 years and under from the Forest of Dean and surrounding areas, has been created to help pave the way for more inexperienced brass players into the Gloucestershire Youth Brass Band and local brass bands.

After just 2 rehearsals the band has 29 players, 18 of which are under 14 but it is hoped that this number will continue to grow and that the local brass bands will support this venture and promote it to their younger members. FODAYBB has no minimum standard for entry and the current members range from Grade 1 to Grade 8.

The band will provide opportunity for members to gain valuable contesting experience by participating in the Youth/Unregistered/Training section at the GBBA Entertainments contest in February 2008 and possibly Music for Youth in Cwmbran in March 2008. . FODAYBB meets from 12.00 - 1.00 on selected term time Saturday's (approximately once every three weeks) at Lakers School Hall.

The band's first public performance will be at the Forest of Dean Area Wind Band Christmas Concert on Saturday 8th December 2007 at Lakers School Hall at 1.00pm.

If you would like to join the FODAYBB please contact the Musical Director Kristyann Symonds on 01594 562778 or email

Glad David enjoyed it Neil. They are a smashing bunch of kids and it was great to see such a variation in ages and playing standards pulling together SO well.

Also, it was brilliant to see some of the local bands represented by their young members - well done to Bream, Lydney, Lydbrook and Parkend!

We have entered the GBBA entertainments contest in February so that will be our first major performance, but if you want a sneak preview then please do come along to the Forest of Dean Area Wind Band's "A Very, Merry Christmas Concert" on Saturday 8th December 2007 at Lakers School from 1.00pm where the FODAYBB will be giving their inaugural performance!

p.s. have checked with the Secretary of the GBBA and it is allowed for a player to perform more than once in the same section.
