    Revolutionising The Concept of Tradestands

Butlins 2009 looks set to offer attendees young and old a full and fun-packed weekend of brass banding. The Association of Band Traders are making sure their own involvement with this ever-growing competition will also make a major contribution to the weekend’s activities.

The traditional ‘tradestand’ area has now evolved into a full Exhibition Village with shopping opportunities, a coffee lounge, exhibition displays, information centres, opportunities to win a trombone through the Association’s charity prize draw, an opportunity to take part in Douglas Yeo’s Bone Blow 2009, a chance to see how the Association has assisted a range of charities over recent years and to learn about their future charitable projects.

The Association is particularly pleased to welcome Rusty Morris (President) and Douglas Yeo (Vice President) of The North American Brass Band Association who are coming over as US representatives on the NABBA exhibition stand. They will be delighted to discuss the opportunities available to UK bands in the USA and give a detailed insight to the slightly different banding scene across the Atlantic.

The Association’s charity focus this year is in aid of a combination of organisations – The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain and the National Children’s Brass Band of Great Britain. In line with their charity mission “to support Music and Youth”, the Association of Band Traders will be raising money throughout the weekend to create a special bursury which can be awarded by the organisers of the NYBB/NCBB to promising young members of these bands to assist in their future musical progression.

To support the fund-raising, the Association will be running a special prize draw to win a brand new trombone (kindly donated by Association member, Band Supplies Ltd) with tickets available via all the exhibitors throughout the weekend, including the NYBB’s own exhibition stand. Additional support will be raised through the exciting and fun event ‘Bone Blow 2009’, led by Douglas Yeo and open to all trombonists – further details to come shortly, but if you play the trombone, make sure you’re part of this history-making event!

Jon Handley, newly appointed Secretary of the Association comments “Butlins has always been a favourite venue for the Association members, and this year I think we’re going to be able to offer visitors to the area one of the best shows to date! In addition to the Association once again sponsoring the two key awards at the event, including “Youngest Player 2009” and “Bandsperson of the Year 2009”, we’ve got a huge cross-section of retailers and band-related organisations, with new and exciting products, information and exhibitions to offer. A fantastic prize draw (which will directly contribute to our Music & Youth mission), great guest appearances from our international banding neighbours and, to top it all, Douglas Yeo’s ‘Bone Blow 2009’ event, which promises to be superb fun whilst significantly helping with our charity focus.”
