John Hopkinson and the Barnsley Building Society Band are mixing and matching their resources ahead of Bradford.

Colin Hardy will be the man in the middle for Barnsley Building Society Band at the forthcoming Yorkshire Area Contest. This allows the band's Musical Director, John Hopkinson, to move onto the front row cornet line.

With two regular cornet players on an enforced (no really) vacation to Mexico the band is delighted to strengthen their line-up with former Grimethorpe Colliery players Scott Bennett (solo horn) and Ray Curry (repiano) and the return of Rebecca Senior (cornet).

Commenting on the moves John Hopkinson welcomed the appointment of Colin Hardy who brings a wealth of conducting and adjudicating experience to the bandroom. With the band looking to consolidate after its promotion to Section 1 he welcomed the addition of such experienced players.

On a sad note the band reports the sudden death of cornet player Tony Brock who was well known to many bands in South Yorkshire. Tony had helped the band to victory at Pontins and was taken ill during rehearsal for the Butlins Mineworkers Contest.
