Cawston Band is delighted to publicly announce the appointment of a new Principal Cornet.

Max Clarke, who joined the band just less than 3 years ago, has taken the role. Max joined the band having previously played for Castleton Brass, Hilgay Silver and Dereham Bands.

Despite advertising for a principal the band finally has found the answer, from within! Max was a reluctant leader of the cornet section at the area contest. It was her first ever contest as a principal. She led the band superbly at Stevenage and was rewarded with some nice comments from adjudicator Phillip Harper and the band was rewarded with 2nd place!

Following on from this Max also led the band in concerts and it was from these contest and concert performances that MD Colin Swaep offered the position to Max on a permanent basis.

‘The band fully believe in Max and it took us a while to convince her she was the right person for the job’ says Chairman Ian Clarke. ‘As she was once told, the only person who does not realise how good she is, is herself!’ added Ian.

Max and Cawston are now looking forward to a busy period of concerts and of course preparation for the National Finals in Harrogate.

The band would also like to take this chance to formally welcome Bb Bass player John Lee who joins them from Norfolk Wherry Brass
