The Shirley Band are delighted to announce that Dave Lea has been appointed as the band’s Professional Musical Director.

Subsequent to the band’s encouraging result at the recent Wychavon Contest, Dave was approached by the band to return to a position that he held with great distinction from 2001 to 2005. That period was one of great success for the band during which they were rarely out of the prizes at contests; winning the Midlands Area Contest in 2003 and attending the National Finals in 2002 and 2003, coming 3rd at Torquay in 2002.

In his new role Dave will be working closely with Associate Conductor Kevin Short, who is also the band’s Principal Euphonium. Their working relationship will commence with preparing the band for its appearance at the forthcoming West Midlands Association Contest at Leamington Spa on November 22nd.

The band are anticipating that great progress will be made in the standard of the band, both in the contesting and concert fields as it enters the 9th decade of its existence.

Dave was at one time Principal Cornet of Coventry City SA band so it may well be one and the same.

Kev is Dave's son and plays top trom with Jaguar in Coventry - Dave's other son Darren is Jags principle cornet so quite a banding family!!
