Richard Sharp has taken over the baton as Gosport Silver Band's new Musical Director in September 2007, when Derek Jones resigned from the band at the end of July. Richard, who is a Royal Marine and based in Portsmouth, started playing the Euphonium at the age of 10 with Porthywaen Silver Band. In 1995, Richard gained a place at Salford University, studying conducting and arranging. When Richard graduated in 1998, he joined the Royal Marines Band Service on trombone and after 3 years service, Richard was drafted to Scotland where he conducted and played in several bands. In March 2007, Richard was drafted to Portsmouth and heard of the vacancy for a Musical Director at Gosport Silver Band. Richard auditioned for the position and was duly accepted as our new Musical Director; a task he says he relishes.

Please contact Richard on 07875382691 for more details about the band.
