The Dinnington Colliery Band are pleased to announce the appointment of their new Musical Director, Mr Ken Vernon, with effect from 1st November.

As a player Ken began his career with Dinnington Colliery Band and he has played with some of the very best bands in the country such GUS Footwear Band. He was National Solo Champion on the euphonium and played on four occasions with the National Youth Brass Band, on which on three of these courses he was principal euphonium.

As a conductor he has been responsible for numerous successes with Harworth Colliery (guiding them to the Second Section), Creswell Colliery, Welbeck Estates Band (achieving promotion to the Third Section) and with Whitwell Brass who were reigning National Champions of the Third Section at the Butlins National Mineworkers Competition when he left the band in 2005.

In 2001 he was presented with the Community Service Award by Rotary International in recognition of his work over a long period of time with young brass players.

Ken is Head of Brass at Worksop College, an Independent day & boarding school in Worksop. He has built the Brass Group up at this school to such a high standard that they played in Eurodisney Paris in 2004 and are to visit Pfungstadt in Germany
in October half term 2006 to give a series of concerts.

Ken is very pleased to accept the position of Musical Director at Dinnington band, where he began his banding career. The circle is complete.

The band would also like a mention to Toby Bannan who is standing down due to work commitments and to say a big thank you from them all for his friendship and leadership.
