New Horizons, New Signing and A New Arrival at Wigston The Leicestershire-based Wigston Band announce new horizons for one of their members, a significant new signing and a new arrival. New Horizons The Wigston Band regret to announce that principal cornet, Kirk Turner will be leaving to take up the vacant principal seat at Newstead Brass. Kirk has been a loyal and hard working member of the band for the last twelve years, initially joining as second man down, before promotion saw his first stint as principal. Whilst at university, Kirk maintained his links with the band making the journey back to Leicester on several occasions to help fill vacant seats for contests. After graduating, Kirk returned to Leicester and rejoined the band on rep, before making the move back to principal. Kirk has flourished as a player since his return to the principal’s seat culminating with Kirk and the Band taking the best soloist prize at the Bolsover Entertainments Contest last year – even though they were plunged into darkness mid-way through his solo performance! He has also become involved in the running of the band, being a valued committee member, and the band’s public relations officer (PRO). His PRO work has included a total redesign of the bands website. Whilst the band is saddened by his decision to leave, they understand that Kirk wants to seek new horizons in his playing career and wish him well for the future. Kirk stated that he was sorry to leave such a great group of people and now looks forward to new challenges ahead. He would like to thank all the members of the band for their support and friendship, in particular the band’s Musical Director Garry Sleath for all his advice and encouragement. The band will be advertising for a new principal cornet in the forthcoming weeks. New Signing On a happier note, the band is pleased to announce that Bob Foulds has joined the band on solo horn. Bob joins after several years playing solo and first horn at the Enderby Band. Before his time at Enderby he played with several Leicestershire bands including the Kibworth Band and Ibstock Brass. On the new signing Garry stated: “We’re delighted to have Bob with us at Wigston, he is well known throughout Leicestershire as a committed and hard-working bandsman and will bring a lot of quality and experience to the band. The solo horn seat has been vacant for a while now so I’m pleased to have a good player full-time in such an important seat. I’m looking forward to working with Bob for the rest of the summer concert season, onward into the contest season and beyond”. New Arrival Finally, the Band would like to wish Karen and Paul Edwards very many congratulations, on the birth of their first child, Peter Philip Edwards. Peter made his entrance into the world on Friday 13th July at 8pm weighing in at an admirable 9lbs 2oz. Karen and Peter are both doing very well, so well in fact that Peter has already made an appearance at his first rehearsal! All members of the Wigston Band would like to extend their very best wishes to Karen and Paul.
