A New Face and a Welcome Return at the Freckleton Band.

The Freckleton Band is delighted to welcome Alex Thomas to the band as Principal Cornet, and Vicky Byrne back in the ranks as Assistant Principal.

Alex is the YBS Band’s former Repiano player, as well as the 2004 British Open Solo Champion, and the band see his signing as something of a coup, as several very well known bands have been requesting the pleasure of Alex’s company since he left YBS. Alex works as a Peripatetic Brass teacher for several local authorities’ and the band look forward to gaining from both his playing and educational experiences. Several current members of the band work alongside Alex with the Wigan Youth Brass Band in particular.

Vicky Byrne has been signed with the band for several years, but has returned from a short break and proved herself invaluable on Assistant Principal Cornet. She was previously the band’s Flugel Horn player, and is very often featured in concerts using her vocal talents, as Vicky is also a trained singer. She performed on the bands’ latest CD recording in this guise and is a popular soloist in the Bands’ concerts both singing and playing.

Paul Dalton, the bands’ conductor, is delighted at the news and hopes to build on the playing experience now around the stand to push onwards and further the bands’ consistently high standard of performance.

    Andy Cattanach, Chairman, Freckleton Band.
