OK, in the recent National Anthem thread on here, the issue of what should be the English anthem is raised again. So here's your chance, tMP-ers! If God Help... sorry.... Save the Queen were to be ditched, what would you like it to be replaced with? As you will see with some of the poll choices, just a bit of light hearted fun.

The theme tune to Starskey and Hutch. We'd look so cool at the Olympics!

My thoughts on the choices above
    1. Jerusalem ........................Too Jewish
    2. Land of Hope and Glory.........Who are you trying to kid
    3. Footballs Coming Home .........Another joke
    4. Floral Dance ......................Too Cornish
    5. English Country Garden .........More concrete and clay
    6. Lloyd Webber ....................More garbage (not a fan)
    7. John Cage 4'33'' ..................Have trouble getting 2' on 11/11
But then Land of Hope and Glory is probably the best tune.

    xx

I agree with Billy Connolly - we should have the theme tune to "The Archers".

If they ever chose Floral Dance I'd emigrate.

    All together now - "Dum-ti-tum-ti-tum-ti-tum, Da-da-da-da-da-daa. Rrrrum-ti-tum-ti-tum-ti-tum, rum-ti-tiddly-dum.........."

    How about 'Groundforce'??.....

Nah, keep it as it is, but throw any singers that go up the octave at the end into the Tower of London!

Indeed, most of my options were meant to be tongue in cheek... :) ;) (Perhaps ALL of them? ;))

You can never be too Cornish!!

My mums always wanted it to be Jerusalem, but I'd probably go for Land of Hope and Glory out of the options!!

Is it worth mentioning 'Football's coming home' Is really called 'Three Lions?' ;)

Certainly agree with throwing any singers who go up the octave at the end of god save the queen into the tower.

Or maybe just that one from the england game on wednesday night!! God save us from amateur warblers with the lungs of a sergeant major!!

Jerusalem ..........................To religious, not everyone is religious in England :)
Land of Hope and Glory........Why not?!
Footballs Coming Home .........I'd rather seek asylum in Bagdad
Floral Dance ......................Does it have words? Cheesy but I like it
English Country Garden .........haven't heard that since I was about 10...thankfully
Lloyd Webber ....................I have to agree.....garbage...stick to musicals
John Cage 4'33'' ..................to much like a tribute to dead people

Good poll! Glad the options are all tongue in cheek though! I think Land of hope and glory is the most sensible, everyone knows it and it's by a great British composer!

    You are a genius!

But i think the little kiddies trying to learn their anthem might get a bit confused! ;)

Sorry....had a moment of temporary amnesia/insanity!! Still can hardly see sporting heroes standing to attention, hand on chest, patriotically singing the words to the floral dance.........???

    National Anthem

If it hadn't been used for the rugby world cup a few years ago, I think "I Vow To Thee My Country" would make a crackin' National Anthem
